"The Wicked Will Rise" by Danielle Paige
Back in February I wrote a review on the first book in this series Dorothy Must Die and absolutely loved that book. You know right away at the end of that book that there is definitely going to be a sequel to it, so I sat around anxiously waiting for it to come out on it's release date of March 31st but even more for it to become available (my turn) at my local library. Once I got that email that said it was waiting for me at the library to check it out I rushed down there, took it home and began to travel down that yellow brick road again. That road took my over a month to complete.
Here is the books overview that I got from Barnes & Noble to give you a little rundown about what it is about.
"My name is Amy Gumm—and I'm the other girl from Kansas. After a tornado swept through my trailer park, I ended up in Oz. But it wasn't like the Oz I knew from books and movies. Dorothy had returned, but she was now a ruthless dictator. Glinda could no longer be called the Good Witch. And the Wicked Witches who were left? They'd joined forces as the Revolutionary Order of the Wicked, and they wanted to recruit me. My mission? Kill Dorothy. Except my job as assassin didn't work out as planned. Dorothy is still alive. The Order has vanished. And the home I couldn't wait to leave behind might be in danger. Somehow, across a twisted and divided land, I have to find the Order, protect the true ruler of Oz, take Dorothy and her henchmen down—and try to figure out what I'm really doing here."
Like various many other things, the sequel just wasn't as awesome as the first one which only took me little to no time to read. This book however, was more of a chore than a pleasure to read. It had far too much filler spots for my personal taste. There were scenes that took pages upon pages to get through which for my attention span is not necessarily a good thing.
As I was reading the book I kept wondering where it was going and if it had any actual basis to it. It literally just felt like a filler book and one with a pretty horrible ending. There were a few new characters introduced into the story and maybe two major events that happened but otherwise everything else was filler. Most of it was of Amy narrating which got really old very fast. I was hoping for action and lots of goings on like in the first book but no. This was mostly Amy narrating her way from one place to another to another and so on.
I've been looking around Google to see if there is going to be a third book in this series but I cannot find any information on it but then this book did just come out a few months ago. After the way this book ended (I hated the ending. Well the last two chapters in their entirety to be honest) I truly hope that there is going to be a third to continue on where the story was left. There needs to be more story line and my question of "What the heck just happened?" can be answered. I definitely recommend reading the first one but slightly recommend this one. If there is going to be a third then I would definitely recommend reading this one so you can have the same questions that I am having. I'm not big on audio books but this is one that I would have been OK with rather than actually reading it.
