This week we get to meet Shauna and her blog Delightful Struggles. I really like how she has a very firm goal for her blog and where she is going to take it in 5 years. Makes me stop and think about mine.
1. What or who inspired you to create your blog?
I'm a counselor by day and have a wealth of information about coping with life, but I found I wasn't coping well. Initially my blog was supposed to be me on my soap box but it turned into something completely different overtime. I read blogs like Ask A manager and The Practical Wedding and was just completely enamored and thought to myself I want to do that too.
2. What is your #1 favorite thing about blogging and why?
For me, my favorite thing is growth. I seen where I started, where I came from, and I know where I'm going. For me I'm just happy with the idea that I went from not blogging at all for months to now putting out three posts a week with a calendar. It really teaches me much about life as well. Just be watching others blog and be successful it give me the inspiration and motivation to get out there and make it happen for myself.
3. What main topics do you blog about?
I like to call it real world survival. I talk about relations, life, mind, body, recipes, and weddings. With my blog I write about what's on my mind and what;s makes me happy and I let the rest fall into place. I even through some DIY's in the and there is waaaaay more to come!
4. When you’re not blogging, what do you enjoy doing?
I try to enjoy life which includes spending time with my fiance. We're foodies so we like to go out to eat and enjoy each other's company. I also enjoy crafting so I'm always making something new or different. Lately though when I'm not blogging, I am blog maintaining and learning new skills.
5. What has been your favorite place to visit and explore?
The nearest park. I am one of those girls who have a love hate relationship with nature. I hate bugs but I love being outside. I love the smell of a fresh rain, and the calm of the nearest lake. I love to feel the heat of the sun on my skin and to hear the laughter of small children. I like going for longs walks on bike trails it just makes me feel so good.
6. Do you blog as a hobby or is it your job?
I blog as a job, that is not at it's fullest potential. When I started blogging so many people said "don't blog for money." I don't really work like that. I looked at blogging as an opportunity. Do I love it? Yes! Or else I wouldn't do it. Is it making me money right now? No, not at all. That's okay though, it will one day. When it does it will obviously by something special.
7. Where would you like to take your blog in 5 years?
I will have expanded my readers in 5 years and be making money off this blog, point, blank, period. I want a question answer series and to build a coaching business with products to sell by then. I know it can be done and look forward to the day I have fully achieved this.
8. What has been the hardest thing that you’ve encountered since you began blogging?
The hardest thing for me is managing time between work and other life responsibilities. I also have had a great difficulty with building readers. I don't do social media as frequently as I should. I have the tools I just don't always use them. I need to get better at sticking to my schedule.
9. From your experience, what’s one tip that you would give to a new blogger?
This one is hard, because though I have been blogging for a little bit I still feel new. I would tell them to push on through. They can do whatever they want to achieve with blogging as long as they let go of fear. It holds people in places they should have never seen.
10. What are your top 3 must watch tv shows?
I love watching Dance Mom's, my 600ibs life, and housewives of anything if I'm feeling good, I don't really watch much tv and I am usually always doing something while working.
11. What is something about you or that you that makes you unique?
I was one credit short from being a double major in child and family development and fashion design. Basically am a fashionably loud mental health clinician. I can teach people how to live rocking awesome life while looking grrreeaat!
12. Do you have a historical or currently living icon that you look up to? Why?
I must say I am a fan of Lady Beyonce! She is just amazing to me. Not only is she strong and confident she has been on the music scene since she was a child. She had a dream and worked very hard to achieve it. In this world there aren't many role models who have worked for this long in their lives to only reap the benefits later. It is the prime example of delayed gratification and it is exactly what my parents taught me about growing up.
13. What is the one blog post that you are the most proud of hitting the publish button on?
I would say the five tips to learn how to love yourself post.
The post was a launch to my self love challenge and it was such an eye opener for me. I had a friend who messaged me privately and she talked about recovering from a break up and how touch she was about the post. When I write my posts I try to write from my heart. Most of the time I am writing to the old me. I am writing to the average girl who is exploring the real world and trying to figure out how to survive.
14. What is your favorite season and the one thing that you look forward to during it each year?
My favorite season is wedding season! Haha, no really my favorite season is the summer time. I love the smells (especially barbecue on the grill) and the warm sun beaming on my face. Each year I look forward to my favorite peoples' birthdays and my anniversaries. Birthdays are always magical for me because I love to talk about getting older and reminiscing about younger days. It's the same thing with anniversaries I just love knowing where I came from and seeing the future with my lover.
15. Is there anything else that you would like to share about yourself, your life or your blog?
I am a firm believer of following your dreams! It is so important to do what you love in life even if that means it is completely unconventional. If you want to be a reality tv star, go for it. If you want to be a professional blogger, you can do it for sure! People hesitate to follow their dreams because they are scared of failure but the truth is failure is the foundation for success. Will you be rich overnight? maybe, maybe not! Will you be happy for doing what you love? totally!
