Meet the Blogger: The Spirit of Us

Hey everyone and happy Wednesday. So sorry that there hasn't been a Meet the Blogger Behind the Blog post for the past few weeks. I was out of state on vacation for my birthday and been dealing with some kind of sick bug now that I'm back. But I have lots of videos to edit and pictures to post from my vacation so be sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel and Instagram to see everything right when I post them
But now, let us get on to this weeks featured blogger who just happens to be Jo De Corrado from the site "The Spirit of Us." She is a new blogger in her 50's that is loving the journey so far.
1/ What or who inspired me to create my blog?
My brother! He gave me a blog site he was not using. The site name was perfect for my passion -connecting with the exuberant spirit of life. So I more or less fell into blogging – but I’m loving it!
2/ What is your favourite thing about blogging?
I have two! One is the creativity it allows. I love the whole process of writing, styling photos, designing the site, and being able to brainstorm ideas and just run with them. It’s amazing!
Two is the connection and sharing. I’m doing the blog with 3 of my favourite people. I’ve also loved connecting with people for our “About You” section, and with people online – people are doing amazing things, and it’s wonderful to connect and share.
3/ What is your mission?
Our mission is to help us all live more inspired, creative and spirit-filled lives, by providing inspiration, tools and resources, and ways to connect with ourselves, others and nature.
4/ When you’re not blogging, what do you do?
I walk the dog, I study Arts Psychotherapy, I play with my granddaughter (6 months and so-o-o gorgeous), spend time with family, haunt local café’s, read, cook, plant veggies (mostly, it seems, to feed the bugs), dream, watch “Under the Tuscan Sun” yet again, play board games , go to the beach or mountains - oh, and cook, clean, wash as well.  Really, a life filled with lovely things.
5/ Where is my favourite place to travel?
I have so many! One of my favourites is the Atherton Tablelands in Far North Queensland, up behind Cairns. It is so pretty and they have everything – spectacular mountain scenery, rainforest, farmland, waterfalls, bush, friendly little towns…
6/Is blogging your job or your hobby?
I have only been blogging for three months, so it is currently a hobby, but I would love for it to be my job. In my mind, it already is!
7/ Where would you like to see your blog in five years?
In five years I would love my blog to be a space where people can drop by and feel at home – where they feel safe to express who they are, be inspired, connect with others and find resources for living an inspired and authentic life. I would also like the direction to be influenced by the readers – it is about the “Spirit of Us” – not just me
8/ What has been the hardest thing?
The most difficult thing by far has been the technical aspects.  I still find that hard, especially when something stops working and I don’t know what to do, or when I’m faced with incomprehensible (to me) programming text. Terrifying!
9/What is one tip you would give to new bloggers?
From my experience, the one tip I would give new bloggers is to connect with others. Reach out for help, be inspired and encouraged.  Think of it as a team effort for building a positive community. And just write, post, try new things as much as you can and watch yourself grow into your own style!
10/What are your top 3 must-watch TV shows?
  • “This Old Thing” with Dawn Porter – a fun look at vintage fashion and bringing it into the now
  • “Restoration Home” – I love seeing people rescue historic homes and give them a new chapter in the story of their lives.
  • “The Voice” – I can’t even sing in tune, but I love watching those who can.
11/ What is something about me that makes me unique?
My smile – and I love to play! I still feel like a kid at heart…
12/ Do you have an icon that you look up to? Why?
There are plenty of people I admire. One is Michelle Obama. She is smart, intelligent, and a wonderful communicator. I love that she seems so grounded, down-to-earth and genuine. She has a real concern for others, and uses her position to help where she can. She prioritizes her family, and also seems very good at setting boundaries and being tough when called for.  I think she is a wonderful role model for women everywhere.
13/ What blog post am I most proud of?
This one came from the memories written down by my mother, of her kitchen when she was a girl in the 1940’s. “Home” is such a powerful concept, and the kitchen is its heart. I love that the Spirit of that kitchen was formed by all the many moments and memories it held, and that it’s still a spirit that’s alive today, almost 80 years later

14/ What is your favourite season?
Autumn!  I love its long sunny days and cool nights. I love the relief from the February heat and humidity of the sub-tropics. I love its sense of fullness and completion, and its kind of melancholy sadness.
15/ Is there anything else that you would like to share about yourself, your life, or your blog?
This feels like a really exciting time of my life and a turning point for me.  I am getting the opportunity to explore and follow my creative passions and fashion new directions for my life. It was really important to me to do this with others, so I’m so happy that three of my closest friends are happy to be part of the team.

I am loving connecting with so many other people both face-to-face and online – it is a confirmation and expression of “The Spirit of Us”!
