Meet the Blogger Behind: This Moms Notes
Hey Howdy Hello. For the last weekly Meet the Blogger series post for September we are meeting 34 year old Elizabeth Trull and her blog This Mom's Notes. Her blog is very family oriented as she shares things about her family and she even does book reviews which as I book lover myself, is always an interesting read.
1. What or who inspired you to create your blog?
My blog was actually my husband, Matt's idea. I've always loved writing so I've been doing that in one form or another for as long as I can remember. There are some really great blogs that I follow and after I talked about posts I had read on them a few times, Matt suggested I should start one since I obviously enjoyed reading them.
2. What is your #1 favorite thing about blogging and why?
The opportunity to share my stories and experiences with others and reading other people's stories and experiences. There are such a wide variety of bloggers that there is always something new and interesting to read about.
3. What main topics do you blog about?
I write mainly about my family. I have been married for almost 4 years and we have two boys, an 8 year old and a 1 year old. The areas I focus on include parenting, marriage, our Christian faith, kids activities, and book reviews. My older son and I just started a new blog series of science experiments for kids.
4. When you’re not blogging, what do you enjoy doing?
I love spending time with my family. We all enjoy being outdoors and exploring nature or playing sports informally. I also enjoy reading, baking and doing crafts.
5. What has been your favorite place to visit and explore?
I have always enjoyed exploring close to home. We have found many interesting places in our own town to explore and have fun. The nearest big city to us is Boston, MA and it provides a variety of places to explore as well.
6. Do you blog as a hobby or is it your job?
Right now, blogging is a hobby but I am working on making it a job.
7. Where would you like to take your blog in 5 years?
I would like to be blogging as my full time job and be helping others by sharing my experiences through writing. I would also like to begin working on writing a book in the next 5 years.
8. What has been the hardest thing that you’ve encountered since you began blogging?
Finding a balance between blogging and family has been challenging at times. With two kids, things are always busy so finding the time to write can be hard.
9. From your experience, what’s one tip that you would give to a new blogger?
One thing that I found helpful when I started my most recent blog was waiting to share it with others until I had several posts written and live on the blog site. I also had a few posts ready to publish so I would be ahead of the game with content instead of rushing to get things written.
10. What are your top 3 must watch tv shows?
We haven't actually watched tv in the last few months because we don't have cable. When we did have cable though, we made sure to stay caught up on Once Upon a Time, the Vampire Diaries and Sleepy Hollow.
11. What is something about you or that you do that makes you unique?
I'm still trying to figure this one out.
12. Do you have a historical or currently living icon that you look up to? Why?
I wouldn't say I have a specific icon that I look up to but there are many women who I admire, both people I know personally and public figures. I have several good friends who have built up successful businesses while being stay at home moms as well. I admire many authors because I am a writer and would like to publish a book someday. My favorite by far is Kasey Van Norman.
13. What is the one blog post that you are the most proud of hitting the publish button on?
In January, I wrote about my experience when I welcomed Jehovah's Witnesses into my home to learn more about their beliefs. Doing this challenged me to more clearly define my own beliefs which was a great exercise in faith, one I think everyone should undertake at some point in their life.
14. What is your favorite season and the one thing that you look forward to during it each year?
One thing I love about living in New England is that we get to experience all four seasons. My favorite by far is the fall. I love the beautiful colors of the foliage, the pumpkin flavored coffee, apple cider donuts, dressing up for Halloween and preparing for Thanksgiving. Every year I look forward to carving pumpkins and decorating for Halloween.
Thank you Elizabeth for sharing some things about you and your blog and letting us get to know you.
You can keep up to date with Elizabeth by following her on: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and of course her blog.
Stop by next Wednesday for another "Meet the Blogger Behind the Blog" to meet another amazing blogger.
