Meet the Blogger Behind: The Faerie Review

This week on my Meet the Blogger Behind the Blog series we are meeting 29 year old Lilyana from New York and her blog "The Faerie Review." From what I've gathered so far is she is a bookworm just like me which is totally awesome. She was also super sweet and featured my blog in one of her Saturday Shout out posts which was unexpected yet highly appreciated and just super sweet. Check out her interview below and be sure to hop on over to her blog and say hi.

1.       What or who inspired you to create your blog?
I love to read, I always have. Blogging seemed like a great creative outlet, and a way to share my love of reading with others. I've discovered so many new books since I started and have a long list of others I can't wait to read and share!

2.       What is your #1 favorite thing about blogging and why?
Being able to share things I love with other people in such a big way. I love hearing about new books, or hearing about how people loved a book I reviewed.

3.       What main topics do you blog about?
Books, book related things, and life. Yes life is quite the broad topic, but between my tips & tricks and wind down posts, and my introspection blog, a big slice of my life is covered.

4.       When you’re not blogging, what do you enjoy doing?
Baking. I do love to read, but I feel like that's still linked back to the blog. I absolutely love to bake and cook. Cupcakes are my specialty. I actually made over 300 cupcakes with the help of friends for my wedding.

5.       What has been your favorite place to visit and explore?
My parent's backyard. They live in the hills, and their backyard is a giant field ending with a small stand of woods with a stream running through it. It's beautiful and relaxing.

6.       Do you blog as a hobby or is it your job?
It's sort of a little of both. I'm a housewife (with no kids yet), so while that is my job, blogging helps me keep a schedule. I lose less time this way, and I keep deadlines and a schedule just like a regular job (only way more fun than any job I've ever tried to hold down!) Honestly, being a housewife has always been my dream job, and although I didn't plan on landing there so soon, I realize I'm better off mentally now than I was.

7.       Where would you like to take your blog in 5 years?
Mostly, I'd just like to see it grow. Hopefully have a partner or two to help me keep up with everything, as well as bring a fresh perspective to everything.

8.       What has been the hardest thing that you’ve encountered since you began blogging?
The overwhelming response and how to deal with it. This started off as just for fun and grew much faster than I was anticipating. It really was overwhelming at first. I wasn't sure how to handle it all.

9.       From your experience, what’s one tip that you would give to a new blogger?
If you don't love it, don't start a blog around it. This is the first time I started blogging about something I love. I've tried to blog before, years ago, but I didn't love the topic. What started off as fun quickly turned into a chore, turned into I'll skip one day, which eventually snowballed. All of those blogs have since died off, I think maybe one lasted a full year before it was no longer something I enjoyed doing but felt like I had to do.

10.   What are your top 3 must watch tv shows?
Cutthroat Kitchen, (Alton Brown is my hero)! Murdoch Mysteries (I have a soft spot for period shows I must admit). Midsomer Murders (a British mystery show I discovered by chance and now binge watch like it's my job).

11.   What is something about you or that makes you unique?
Everyone who knows me agrees I'm delightfully deranged. They mean that in the most loving, serious way possible. Bipolar can make me a little unpredictable, but one of my close friends made me feel better about it when I was lamenting my mood swings one day by informing me that I was 'delightfully deranged" and that I wouldn't be me if I wasn't.

12.   Do you have a historical or currently living icon that you look up to? Why?
Not an icon. But the people in my life I really care about, there's something about each of them I admire. My husband's ability to stay calm even when I'm losing my mind, my brother's tenacity, my mom and dad's inner strength. I'd go on, but we'd be here for days. I have people who have adopted me as their sister, their daughter, and they've had such a good influence on my life. They keep me getting up each day.

13.   What is the one blog post that you are the most proud of hitting the publish button on?
My first really personal post before I started the introspection journal. My second year in college I took a semester off to help my mom and grandma deal with transitioning my grandma to a nursing home. Her alzheimer's had reached the point where she couldn't be alone, and none of us were ready or equipped for home care. It was a really rough time. I talked about some of it in this post, and it was the first time I really opened up past books. It was scary, but it felt amazing.

14.   What is your favorite season & the one thing that you look forward to during it each year?
Late spring/early summer (my birthday falls in early June). Every year we have a bonfire with family and close friends, roast things over the open flame, and just hang out. It's a great way to mark the halfway point in the year, and who doesn't love chocolate and marshmallows? It also means the Renaissance Faire is almost here, and I can get out my fairy wings! (Let's get serious those never actually get put away). I don't always make it to the faire, but it is one of my favorite activities each year when I can make it for a day.

15.   Is there anything else that you would like to share about yourself, your life or your blog?
I love everything to do with folklore, fairy tales, fae, mythology, religion and costumes. If you know of any good books or blogs or places I should check out please let me know!

Best wishes,
