Meet the Blogger Behind: Fempotential

Good morning and happy Wednesday everyone. This week on Meet the Blogger Behind the Blog we are meeting 26 year old Alex Temblador from the United States and her blog Fempotential. Her blogazine is full of amazing posts that are definitely worth the read. If you are looking for more real and less fluff posts then be sure to check out her blog.

1. What or who inspired you to create your blog?
I was inspired by a combination of things to create Fempotential. First, I was inspired to create Fempotential, after working for Brandy Black, founder of TheNextFamily.com. While working for her, I noticed how passionate she was about her online magazine for modern families and I wanted to feel the same about something of my own. Before starting the blogazine, I was working for TheNextFamily.com as well as a few other blogs and websites as a freelance writer, and though I liked working for most of these companies, I wanted something that was my own – something that I was passionate about. For a year or so, I had my own blog in which I shared my personal stories and I discovered that many women were responding positively to what I had to say about living an independent lifestyle. All of that combined and a lot of late nights unable to go to sleep, helped me to form the idea for Fempotential – a community of diverse women sharing their stories to help educate and inspire women to reach their full potential.

2.       What is your #1 favorite thing about blogging and why?
I love reading the comments that people leave on our blogs, whether it’s a blog that I wrote or a blog from one of our contributors. It’s amazing to see how helpful or encouraging blogs can be to other women.

3.       What main topics do you blog about?
Fempotential shares blogs on the following topics: identity, career, beauty, interviews, inspiration, life skills, travel, love, sex, dating, creativity, and health & wellness.

4.       When you’re not blogging, what do you enjoy doing?
When I’m not working on Fempotential, I love to travel – domestically and internationally, as well as writing novels, reading, dancing, going to concerts and events, and working out or playing sports.

5.       What has been your favorite place to visit and explore?

My favorite place that I’ve ever visited was Peru. It was a two-week stay that involved hiking Machu Picchu, exploring ancient ruins, salsa, experiencing cultural aspects like pottery and food, and much more.

6.       Do you blog as a hobby or is it your job?
Fempotential only launched in March of 2016, so it’s currently not a full-time job, though I hope it becomes that one day. However, as a freelance writer, I do get paid to blog for other sites.

7.       Where would you like to take your blog in 5 years?
My intention is to grow Fempotential into a full-time position. In five years, I hope to be able to pay our contributors, have a scholarship for young women writers, and be a leading inspiration among women all across the world.

8.       What has been the hardest thing that you’ve encountered since you began blogging?
The hardest thing about blogging is trying to grow our audiences without having any funds to do so. I’ve had to come up with innovative ways to grow our audience, page views, and social media numbers and it hasn’t been easy. As a perfectionist with little patience, it’s really hard for me to wait for that one big break, but I feel like it’s coming soon.

9.       From your experience, what’s one tip that you would give to a new blogger?
Ask for help – whether it’s from a Facebook blogger group or from family and friends, always ask for help. There’s a lot about the blogging business that’s confusing and frustrating, but there are a million people out there who want to help you succeed.

10.   What are your top 3 must watch tv shows?
Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, and How to Get Away With Murder

11.   What is something about you or that you that makes you unique?
I’ve lived in four states and 7 different apartments in 8 years, and have started traveling alone in the past two years. It’s hard for me not to move about!

12.   Do you have a historical or currently living icon that you look up to? Why?
Frida is someone that I definitely look up to. She was completely comfortable in who she was, what she did, and how she looked. Better yet, she was fearless, went for her goals, and spoke up about things that weren’t okay.

13.   What is the one blog post that you are the most proud of hitting the publish button on?
It’s hard to choose! This is my favorite blog post that I wrote for Fempotential, “You Can’t Determine My Racial or Ethnic Identity For Me”: http://www.fempotential.com/cannot-determine-racial-ethnic-identity/

However, I recently interviewed famous author, Ana Castillo, for Fempotential which I was super proud of: http://www.fempotential.com/interview-ana-castillo/

14.   What is your favorite season and the one thing that you look forward to during it each year?
I love spring. After chilly winters, the sun finally comes out and it feels like a time of renewal. My birthday is in March and I always take a big birthday trip, so of course, you can’t beat that!

15.   Is there anything else that you would like to share about yourself, your life or your blog?
Fempotential is always looking for new contributors – women who want to share their stories to help and inspire other women to reach their full potential. It’s my firm belief that if we can inspire young women to be stronger, confident, and self-assured, we can change our world for the better. And the best way we can do that – with the power of story.

Thank you Alex for sharing some things about you and your blog and letting us get to know you.

You can keep up to date with Alex by following her on: TwitterFacebook & Instagram and of course her blog.

Stop by next Wednesday for another "Meet the Blogger Behind the Blog" to meet another amazing blogger.
