Happy Wednesday everyone! I cannot believe that we are getting close to the end of the year. Time has truly gone by incredibly fast. This week on Meet the Blogger Behind the Blog we are meeting 39 year old Jennifer Reidy from Indiana and her blog "Froment Free." She has a tasty blog and I am currently going through the pictures of her Disney in the Fall post which I am of course loving.
1. What or who inspired you to create your blog?
I think when my son tested positive for the wheat allergen last year, that's when I knew I needed to just launch the thing. I was learning photography on my DSLR this past fall and I just thought 'why not. Now is as good a time as anytime.'
2. What is your #1 favorite thing about blogging and why?
I love telling stories and trying to be compelling with them, whether that be emotional or humorous. Whatever I can tap into when it comes to a reader is what I love. But my #1 favorite thing after that and cooking of course, has got to be the photography. I am literally addicted to food photography. Kinda like chocolate, I guess?
3. What main topics do you blog about?
fromentfree.com is a food blog, so I blog about lots of recipes, all of which are solely gluten free. There are no limits really. They just happen to all be gluten free. I also have a series called 'A Food Blogger's Tale' that I've started, where each month I write a story about just anything that comes up at the time in life.
4. When you’re not blogging, what do you enjoy doing?
When I'm not blogging, I enjoy studying photography and reading up on cookbooks mostly. Also, of course, I love spending time with my two crazy kiddos and their dad. My family is pretty much what makes me whole.
5. What has been your favorite place to visit and explore?
We haven't taken many trips lately but will be soon. I guess we just love going to Florida at this stage in our lives. My husband enjoys being at the beach and my kids just love the water. It's very relaxing and easy to get to Florida from here. At this point in life, I'm exploring things I never noticed before. Seeing things through a camera has opened up an entire world for me, right within my own day to day places I go.
6. Do you blog as a hobby or is it your job?
I started a food blog to make it my job. So far, I haven't made much from it at all. But continuing on my path is the only way that I can get to a point where I will start earning money. I'm almost 40, so I didn't really look at it as a hobby. I've been cooking and taking pictures on my IPhone and writing as a hobby for years. I went all in on this one.
7. Where would you like to take your blog in 5 years?
I hope to have a great cookbook published. Preferably one centering around cooking during the holidays. That's my favorite time of year to cook! And there are soooo many photo ops with all these different kinds of dishes....it's endless. So, a cookbook would be the ultimate goal. A fun show on the Food Network would be amazing too :) One has to dream, right? Ha! :)
8. What has been the hardest thing that you’ve encountered since you began blogging?
The hardest thing: not being great at 'turning it off.' It's the first year and there's soo much to learn and do with food blogging. Things change constantly in the industry. I've also been building the site from the start and self teaching with everything. It is so time consuming but I have to turn it off when I have to. It's difficult, but must be done.
9. From your experience, what’s one tip that you would give to a new blogger?
My best piece of advice to a new blogger would be to do what YOU can, and just don't compare your work ethic to the blogging world around you. Blog for your life and what you are capable of. That's what you need to stick with.
10. What are your top 3 must watch tv shows?
Modern Family, Barefoot Contessa, and Veep.
11. What is something about you or that you that makes you unique?
I sing and my specialty is musical theatre.
12. Do you have a historical or currently living icon that you look up to? Why?
Ina Garten. I really enjoy her show tremendously and love how she cooks, shares ideas, and is selfless with her teaching. She really is great.
13. What is the one blog post that you are the most proud of hitting the publish button on?
I think my favorite and most proud post so far was the post I wrote on the 2016 BlogHer Awards. I won a Voices Of The Year award for my food photography on Instagram. I flew to L.A. and got to stay with a dear friend. It was a great trip and I just loved taking all the photos and posting about it. That was probably my favorite so far, but I really do have lots of others too....http://fromentfree.com/
14. What is your favorite season and the one thing that you look forward to during it each year?
My favorite season, by far, is the fall. Hands down. The feel of the air, the colors, the food, the smells....there's nothing else like the fall. It's an even better time of year now in my life, as my kids are young and watching their eyes light up at Halloween and throwing Thanksgiving in our home....it's just wonderful.
15. Is there anything else that you would like to share about yourself, your life or your blog?
A big thank you for letting me get this information to you! Hope to be a part of it! What a great idea!
Thank you Jennifer for sharing some things about you and your blog and letting us get to know you. You can keep up to date with Jennifer by following her on: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and of course her blog. Stop by next Wednesday for another "Meet the Blogger Behind the Blog" to meet another amazing blogger.
