Meet the Blogger Behind: The Pinky Project

Happy Wednesday! This week on Meet the Blogger Behind the Blog we are meeting 34 year old (but says she feels 24) Angela Quisumbing from California and her blog The Pinky Project. If you enjoy reading family-lifestyle blogs then you should defintiely check out hers. But first, read my interview with her below.

1.       What or who inspired you to create your blog?
That’s easy, my daughter, my first born! I’ve always loved to write and when I became a mother I discovered I had a lot to say on top of a lot to learn. I started the blog as a creative outlet sharing my adventures in parenting and marriage. I quickly realized that I wanted to write to inspire and connect with other moms who were going through similar stages and situations in life. My daughter used to hold her little pinky to her face when all was right in her world, she looked so peaceful, and that’s where The PInky Project formed.  The meaning has evolved now that I have a son and more projects up my sleeve, but family is what started it all.

2.       What is your #1 favorite thing about blogging and why?
The #1 thing I love about blogging is making real connections with real moms. I never know who my stories will reach, but when I get messages and comments from moms who can relate and tell me how much they appreciate a certain post, that means the world. It’s what fuels me as a blogger.

3.       What main topics do you blog about?
The blog seems to be evolving all the time, but the topics I find myself writing about the most are parenting and family.

4.       When you’re not blogging, what do you enjoy doing?
When I’m not blogging I’m cooking for my family or homeschooling the kiddos! I love to learn so I’m always reading up on something whether it’s about blogging, business or parenting. I can also be found on the mats doing either Pilates or training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I love going out and exploring America’s Finest City too!

5.       What has been your favorite place to visit and explore?
I haven’t traveled outside the US much, but I would love to go back to the Philippines to explore some of the famous waterfalls. Last time I went we stayed in the city. It’s always great to go back to the place your family came from.

6.       Do you blog as a hobby or is it your job?
For me, it’s a little bit of both. Blogging helps keep my creative juices flowing. It keeps my skills in tact and it allows me to meet amazing people and foster new relationships. Blogging has always been a segway into another form of income for me. Although the blog itself does not make much, I still treat it as a “job” but one that I love! That’s the great thing about blogging, it can be anything you want it to be.

7.       Where would you like to take your blog in 5 years?
In 5 years I would love to be making enough money to support my family’s goals! I just relaunched the blog earlier this year so I am excited to see it grow and evolve. Over the next few years I want to have a more defined focus and maybe write an e-book. I imagine as long as I am being a resource, connecting people and inspiring families I’ll be okay ;)

8.       What has been the hardest thing that you’ve encountered since you began blogging?
If you would have asked me this a few years ago I would have said time to write. I realize now that I can’t write a post about all my ideas. Personally, growing has been the biggest challenge. I mentioned blogging lead me to opportunities I would not have gotten if I wasn’t blogging. I launched other community blogs and hosted fun events for mom. Maintaining all of these “identities” was the hardest thing for me. At one point, I stopped blogging on The Pinky Project. You can read the whole story here > http://thepinkyproject.com/2016/02/why-i-stopped-blogging/. Just recently have I been able to let things go and make sound decisions about what I really want from blogging and how I want it to fit into my life.

9.       From your experience, what’s one tip that you would give to a new blogger?
Oh my goodness….just one? LOL! I know this might cliche, but be authentic and write about the things that matter to you. Once you steer from your passion, writing your blog will seem like a job that you hate. That being said, partner with brands that align with your life’s vision and mission, not just because they reach out to you or because it sounds like a good opportunity. Keep going and whatever you do...do not give up!

10.   What are your top 3 must watch tv shows?
Hmm...I don’t watch a lot of TV, but I loved Parenthood - I heard it’s coming back! Grey’s Anatomy and How to Get Away With Murder were two shows I was following consistently over the years. Gotta love Shonda Rhimes!

11.   What is something about you or that you that makes you unique?
I hope this counts, but I’m multi-passionate! I used to feel bad about being a jack of all trades and a master of none, but I’ve learned to embrace it and do my best to focus on one thing at a time. I just can’t imagine life doing just one thing all the time.

12.   Do you have a historical or currently living icon that you look up to? Why?
Hmmm...I can’t say I have one icon. I have many. Most of them are ordinary doing extraordinary things. Moms with multiple kids who are doing amazing things not just for their family but for themselves too. They inspire me to keep moving towards my personal dreams and goals and to not think of myself as just a mom.

13.   What is the one blog post that you are the most proud of hitting the publish button on? http://thepinkyproject.com/2016/02/why-i-stopped-blogging/ This is the blog post I shared above. I poured my heart into this one. It’s the first post I wrote after being MIA for almost three years. I kept telling myself that I wanted to revive my personal blog and I’m glad I finally did with this post. I wanted to share where I had been, give an explanation to my readers, but also share how blogging can lead to you on many unexpected life journeys.

14.   What is your favorite season and the one thing that you look forward to during it each year?
I love fall! Pumpkins are what I look forward to the most. That and the fact that my husband and I got married in October! I’m not a big fan of the cold, but I do love fall fashion and cuddling.

15.   Is there anything else that you would like to share about yourself, your life or your blog?
First of all, thank you for taking time to learn a little about me! I love meeting new people and learning about their life stories. I’ve come to realize that life is a lot about making small adjustments, building relationships and seeking adventure! I have a firm faith in God and that keeps me grounded as I navigate life as a woman who happens to me a wife, mother and a blogger!

Thank you Angela for sharing some things about you and your blog and letting us get to know you. You can keep up to date with Angela by following her on: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and of course her blog. Stop by next Wednesday for another "Meet the Blogger Behind the Blog" to meet another amazing blogger.
